Err... you don't need to desync. Just plug the phone in again and it'll sync with whatever data you have in Outlook on the same PC.

Been there, done that more times than I care to count while "upgrading" my HTC P3300, then when that one got stolen I sync'd my new Touch Cruise the same way (twice, first time when I got it out of the box and the second one when I "upgraded" it).

Just plug it in and tell it to sync (don't forget to tell ActiveSync to discard data on phone and replace it with the PC copy).

My point is, that I don't want it to sync with the PC. I want to keep my personal stuff on my phone and my work stuff on my PC.

There's no way to de-sync. If you do so, then Windows Mobile will delete your contact names and phone numbers.

I don't want to see all of my work appointments - especially daily reminders - on my phone. But I can't do this without Windows deleting all of my personal appointments. If I delete the work appointments from the phone, it f***ing deletes them from Outlook on my work PC too. There appears to be no way to stop this. It's absolute rubbish.

Can't you just set Activesync NOT to sync the contacts? I sync my calendar but not my contacts and have never had a problem?

I had to sync contacts to back them up whilst I was upgrading the phone. Now I can't un-sync them without Windows Mobile deleting all of my names, numbers and appointments from my phone without permission.

Who got one then? I walked past carphone warehouse and saw 5 or so people in the queue, thought I'd go to the o2 store, then came back to carphone warehouse after seeing about 60 people waiting at o2! It took about ten minutes to actually buy it, I was far luckier than others in the queue.
It's a great little thing the sim should be activated tomorrow am at long last.

iPhone are great, when they work. Not 100% sure about the build quality to be honest. Mine has given me all sorts of jip with the WiFi and it crashes all the time! The latest problem is that the phone only works on speaker phone, hate using it now as I feel like an Apprentice wannabe. No multiple text facility also not good and the notes function is rubbish, no copy and paste etc. Downloading from PC to iPhone also been a right pain requiring multiple synchs to get a connection, and now that's given up all together. It let me down in the middle of nowhere when it refused to work at all, not even turning on, then sprang back as if nothing happened the next day! Roaming in Europe cost me a fortune to RECEIVE calls..... I could go on, but it's only 6 months old and it got seriously worse just before the new one 3G effort was announced. The number of iPod's that seem to implode the ay after the warrenty has run out is making me slightly suspicious!
I'm locked into a contract now, so I'll be updating.
'Kin Brilliant when it works though, no instructions required, all intuitive. If you need the web when your out and about for google etc...
Your GF/BF will kill you though, there are a lot of iPhone widows out there....

Nah....Id much rather stick to my simple phone which carries out its intended purpose i.e. txting and calling.

I guess phones with the internet is good if you dont have a lot of money to pay for each thing individually i.e. phone for phoning, internet for interwebbing etc..
