I dont read bike mags but had heard through the grapevine that someone had done it on a cg500 that cost less than 500 quid in under 12 hours as part of some magazine ride thing and frankly I assumed that the record must have been way lower than your 11hours odd.

Don't seem to be able to get past that 1100 mark All of these were in a single day's riding, mind - from morning til night. Also, be aware that covering big miles in the USA is a bit easier than the UK. (And - according to maps.live.com, Galverston to Los Angeles is 1564.1 miles. Mind you, my 884 miles for the end to end is shorter nowadays, with some new roads).
We actually started in Houston, rode to galveston and then back through Via Houston to finish in LA. Also it was in a pair, me and another guy and included a couple of proper sit down stops for food. It was from 12 noon on friday till 11.40 on sat, rest sat night and then 9am sun back to houston to arrive on monday morning.

The plan is to leave around 3 in the morning from my house in wycombe and head north from there. Hit the top asap and then head back to be well into the uk by nightfall and then head down to lands end. The only bit im worried about is the last bit to lands end off the motorway but its not that far. Then its lands end back to my place for a lot of sleep which is an easy ride and not actually that far. This is a total of just over 1800 miles but i may start and end in birmingham if can arrange a place to stay which would cut the best part of 150 miles off the journey. Either way its a challenge and im not even 100% im going to attempt it but i think it can be done.

You are absolutely barking if you're even thinking of doing all that in one hit. The stress involved in just doing JoG to LE without the trip from Wycombe up and then home from LE is enough to put me off thinking about it.

Sunset in Glasgow in late December: 4pm
Sunset in Thurso in late December: around 2.30pm
Time for a clear run from John O'Groats to Glasgow, according to Google Maps: 6 hours

Ignoring, for sake of argument, any speed advantage you'd have (which would probably be offset by the frequency of fuel stops, not to mention the weather), you'd need to hit Glasgow heading north at 4am and John O'Groats at 10am to be back in Glasgow for nightfall. Trouble is, that means you do the entire run north through the Highlands in the dark - you only get 7 hours of daylight in Glasgow at that time of year so you have to do one way or the other in the darkness.

Adrian, best of luck mate. Just make sure you have some form of support crew to get you somewhere warm and fast if things go wrong.
