At least he was wearing proper leather jacket, armoured winter gloves and a shoei lid.

Ped it has to be as he is only 16. He has proper boots/trousers but they are not cool. Hard guys can ride in trackies in the depth of winter.

So lever, mirror required. also clock surround is cracked. I will have to try to source some red paint for the bodywork. Ped only cost £250 but so far I have had to put on a starter motor (£20) and battery (£8.. looks like parts/labour will overtake value of the ped

Wow, Shoei lid and proper gear up top and he's only 16? Pretty good going! Must look a bit odd with trackies though, surely trackies only look good with no lid and a Yves Saint Laurent jumper?

He pretty serious about getting into biking properly later on then or is he happy pedding it?

Never anything as light as trackies. I wore jeans and a leather jacket mainly. The one time I rode in anything lightweight as a jacket I ended up in hospital for 9 months.

Havin said that, my injuries were mainly to my legs and head/face

The first and last time I ever wore normal jeans on my bike must have been the first summer I had suzy, it was the last time, as sliding up and down the seat every two minutes was rediculous and I felt somewhat bare. When the leathers got too tight for the old flabby post baby gut, I got the draggins, but never again would i go any lighter, and i never go any lighter than a leather jacket, but even thats been retired for textiles

I still regularly ride in jeans, I went into town yesterday in them with a Held textile jacket on top. I suppose I ought to buy some Draggin or similar type armoured jeans, but cba while Matalan are selling decent fashion ones for 20 quid.

When my boy had his 'ped (in fact it's still in the garage under SORN....) I told him that if I ever caught him without a proper bike jacket I'd take away the keys. Fortunately, he's not into trackies, but always wore jeans, a decent bike jacket, proper gloves and a decent lid. He hurt his leg once or twice but nothing else.

(Now, maybe that 'ped could be sold and put towards the funds for my new bike)

Why doesn't he wear his trackies over his proper boots and bike trousers?

Just a suggestion

I do look, and I do wonder if they have given much consideration to their safety. Sure, open face helmets might make you feel like you look cool, but they leave an aweful lot of your head open for injury. And last time I checked, suits don't offer alot of abrasion resistence.

When I had a scooter, I'll openly admit I wore jeans. But I did wear alpinestars boots, an alpinestars leather jacket, proper gloves (JTS or something) and a good helmet (had that double-glazed visor thingy, never ever got misted up, It was excellent! But heavy). I didn't feel right wearing any less (and did feel a plonker the times I went full kit when I rode to the place for my test training).

Cheers, Matt
