Yeah I did (don't worry about it I often make stupid mistakes, glad you're being thorough!)

ok, if you do the same, pull the lever in, quickly crack open and close the banjo at the caliper end is there pressure?

Pressure in the fluid or pressure on the lever?
The fluid just dribbles out the same, the pressure at the lever stays constant (still very spongey!)

I had this problem, what i found was that i had to lean the bike over to the right as far as i could, with the bars turned to the right. Then pump the lever and you see bubbles coming out. These bubbles may be trapped when the bike is vertical and certainly if the bike is to the left.

I did my front calipers twice and this worked both times after having the same issue.

pressure in the fluid.

if the levers not working enough to put pressure in the fluid use the syringe to back fill from the bleed nipple under pressure leave everything untouched (lever etc) and push fluid in under pressure until you can push anymore in then close the nipple. pull lever in and crack banjo at lever open and closed quickly. then push fluid in as before and repeat. its probably still air in the hose.
