I've just gotten off the phone with an insurance company to get a quote for an Sv I'm looking at and because I declared the fact it has an aftermarket can they whacked 30% on the premium, taking it from £285 to £365 (Neither of which I think are that bad for a new rider TPF&T in Manchester). Woman on the phone told me this was standard practice across all insurers for modified bikes. While an exhaust is technically a modification, I think 30% is mad.
So, I have a couple of questions for the mighty .org. Firstly, is this 30% thing a load of ******** that I should have disputed? Secondly, do people declare things like an exhaust? Obviously this is a public forum and I'm sure that everyone on here tells their insurance company everything, but what do your 'mates' do? Many thanks

Never had a quote increased for aftermarket can - as long as they are stamped then everyone I've used has been happy.

Most insurance companies are only concerned if there's a performance gain from the can.

if you can walk away from the crash you could change the exhaust back to the standard one before the insurance saw it...shame you cant see the future eh

We had loads of mods on our SV, including a full system. We declared everything and it didn't affect the premium at all.
The value of all the extra's was over 3K! ![]() I think you need to shop around. Every insurance company Pete's been with is only bothered if the can is performance enhancing.
