How do average speed cameras work?

7x5 plate has letters about 2 inches tall? (DVLA claims they must be 2.5 inches tall to be legal but then we aren't exactly being legal here.) You will travel less than an inch in that time doing 50mph and since it's very linear motion it's quite easy to correct and sharpen up a lot of that blurring. I'd not risk it personally

ANPR doesn't read 7x5's.

EDIT: I should clarify, a static ANPR camera won't read a 7x5 plate travelling past it 50mph or above. ANPR fitted to a traffic car will.

So we are saying that the faster the better with ANPR? If you're going to break the law anyway you might as well make it worthwhile.

I remember something on top gear about getting through a speed camera before the camera can register. If I'm correct you need to be doing 160mph to clear the distance. Im yet to find a p***k dumb enough to prove this fact.
Although I have seen a pic of a bloke going throuh a camera at +140mph.... On his backside rofl!
It was a motorway camera I dont know why he came off his bike but I know the police caught up with him at the hospital to issue the spanking.

It's an amusing myth (don't know if true or false) that technically you have to be on your bike to be issued the penalty.

if your going to break the speed limit and all you might as well take 'your plate off i you breaking the law

I've heard a myth that the average speed camera's can't cope with vehicles that change lanes, ie from one set to the next. But reading the posts here, I'm not so sure and I'm not going to bother testing out the theory!

That was a Gatso. Not SPECS (average speed - as in the thread).

Verified many times over on the M56. Change 1-3 or 3-1.
