looks like its the caliper seals. the fact they are so ****ing expensive is really putting me off though. think I'm going to grudgingly order this w/e and hope.

Consider yourself lucky you don't have GSXR brakes with twice as many pistons.

Have you inspected the original seals properly?

Nah! I paid £16 (maybe £16.99) from a local (bristol) shop, for the caliper seals for the front axle... so both calipers.
