Default Fitting high bars to an SV650S

Hi All

Has anybody done this? The girlfriend is getting an SV soon, but I reckon she could do with better wind protection. I realise that it would involve swapping yokes, lines and cables, brake master cylinder and possibly footrests, but;

- is the weather protection any good in the upright position?
- can you stick with the original mirrors or mount ones off the naked bike?

Failing that, anybody found clip-ons that give more of a rise than the standard ones?

Cheers
L

Mine is 1999 models as - quite an easy mod to do - use top yolk off naked version - switchgear all fits
BIGGEST RENTHAL STREETFIGHTER BARS FROM BANDITMANIA FITTED- (massive rise)
Banditmania do them with switchgear holes already pre drilled for extra couple of quid - I have put naked top-yolk (25 QUID E BAY) on mine - all cables do fit but need careful re-routing - longer front brakehose fitted (just got a complete front set cheap off off e bay and used the one of the splitter to lower fork hoses in place of master cylinder to splitter) - - I have double bubble screen fitted which has been modded/cut out (really easy) - had to use chewys mirror extentions as all you can see is you elbows without this mod (you could make your own I guess) - the whole shooting match was in the region of £100 - happy to send you a pic of mine if required

On SK3 onwards models (fuel injected, sporty types), there are a range of different aftermarket clipons available.
I used Heli-Bars on mine, these retaine all the standard brake lines, switchgear, etc. In other words they are a direct swap for the standard clipons (why didn't I say that from the start)
They do change the bike quite a lot, AND I just happen to have my old pair spare (Is blatant selling of stuff morally acceptable?), if you're interested.
Have a look around, there are other makes such as LSL and others.
For curvey bikes (pre 2003), there are other ways around it, but not too sure on these.

Nothing like a blast from the past eh.. That’s an awfully old post to resurrect.
