Not such a good experience today

Seems the learning curve has begun.

I collected my proper leather trousers and boots from work today, which are bloody tight, good fitting and comfy but not what I am used to. Before today I have been wearing a pair of Fila boots that are small and a tight fit.

On my way to Newlands Corner I was at a junction waiting for lights to turn green in neutral with the stand down. As they changed, I must have clicked it into first gear, then used my foot to raise the stand just as went to pull away. However, my boot got caught on the side peg (if you imagine the leather crumples and folds, it welded into the peg). In hindsight I could have jusy twisted my foot forward to release it, but instantly I felt uncomfortable knowing I could not move my left foot and pulled over straight away on the right (crossing a dual carriageway on a one way piece of crossroad thank god). As I got to the verge I managed to put my right foot down but the next thing I know the bike is on it's side against the verge. I must have paniced trying to free my trapped foot. Nothing hurt or broken, just me, looking like a ****, with cars now watching mr trying to pick up this bike on my own with a completely full fuel tank.

Epic Fail.

Anyway, I used logic and managed to lift it up straight, then held it for a minute until I could straddle it in these rock hard brand new leathers. My first few attempts failed but I realised this early, so was not an issue and held the bike up on my hip throughout. Managed to lift it after around 2 miniutes of dropping it and did a brief check, no signs of disturance. Tiny patch of liquid on the ground but normal I suppose.
Anyway with that I rode off and tried to work out what I had done wrong.
I have come to the conclusion that:

1) Next time I will engage stand last and disengage stand first rather than be in the same predicament.

2) If it were to happen, I should be able to simply twist my foot around, and it probably feels a lot worse than it is.

Why are you using your side stand at junctions?

why was u waiting at lights with the stand down and in neutral?????.....neutral by all means but stand down at lights?? wtf

glad your ok but that is not recomended.

As soon as you are on the bike the side stand should come up and then not be put back down until you intend to get back off said bike. Its not designed to take both your weight and the bikes.

both is what I'm thinking?!

My boot always use to get caught in the side stand if i kicked it a certain way.

can't be - my 50 or 125 didn't do this.

They did however, have a neat cable which brought up the stand when you pulled in the clutch

they were also kick start.

i like that, although I know there have been times when I've wheeled the bike out of the shed kicked the stand down then moved it a bit further forward and put it down. It'd be a bugger if I did that andn the stand popped up with out me noticing lol.

plus wouldnt want the stand down while kicking a bike up anyway (bust plums anyone?)
