Cheers for the replies. I was kinda hoping everyone would say, no stick with the SV there is no point spending more money but If the org says to get the blade then who am I to argue.

I have just been watching one on Ebay that went for £2700 which looked pretty sexy/

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Should be able to get £2000 for the SV and the insurance is only an extra £200 a year.

I'm just dreaming at the moment really but hey, I need to dream about something.

I thought it was a bargain as well.

I will be 30 in January and the insurance policy I have gives me 3 years no claims after 1 year of having a bike because I had full no claims on my car.

Quotes I have been getting are around the £450 mark.

Na. Its and IL4.

Oh and the weight thing, rubbish The Sv is one of the lightest bikes in the class (lighter than the SS600's... Even if it dont feel like it) so take that with a pinch of salt.

As to the point... Dunno.

See I always thought this but a chat with monsieur speirs it was suggested otherwise. I always thought you'd be a better rider for learning to absolutely thrash a bike then gradually moveing up. Speirsy suggested having a bike that actually does 'speed' in a comfy controlled fashion will make you ride faster.

L3nny; hovis and james mio rate the fireblades and they both moved to them from sv's.
I know quality bikes have quality suspension but are they guaranteed to handle better than a budget bike?

I suppose the main thing I am worried about is the fun factor at legal(ish) speeds will be a lot lower and I will have to be so carefull with the extra power that I wont use any of it.

A friend of mine quoted this reason as the main reason he traded down from a '98 Fireblade, to a VFR800. He's still happy grinding away his footpegs on the basis of "same road, same level of fun, at least 10mph less" (his quote).

The Fireblade's an awesome machine without doubt but could you enjoy it to the same extent as your SV without losing your license?

I'm (procrastinating about) fixing up an old Yamaha FZ600 to get myself fully back on the road.

We've been through this Hovey. No matter which bike you're on, nor piece of tarmac you're riding on, the understated curvy grime bike will always win.

You're yet to prove me otherwise.

EDIT: Maybe i'll make the Welsh TT 3 next year when i have a bit more money. I do love that part of Wales.
