Have you checked with the neighbours to see if they are getting post as normal?

There are various government agencies that can, entirely without your permission or knowledge, have your post redirected, one of them doesn't even require a court order of any other sort of authorisation - they just pick the phone up and tell the Post Office to do it.

I second a look at the watchdog programme. Anyone can redirect your mail with only a small amount of information and if it is paid for in cash, there is no trail. The Royal Mail will be no help as they are protected by the data protection act. A couple in South Wales have had their credit rating ruined and cannot finish their house build and so its up for sale....scary stuff.

And that's not all. Three years on from being the victim of pretty large scale ID theft and fraud and I still have trouble sometimes. I had over £40k of loans and credit cards taken out in my name....the loans coming from banks with which new accounts had been opened, so I didn't pick up on anything at my own bank.

The scary thing is and you should all take note of this....you don't need to have someone redirect your mail.

You can walk into a post office sorting centre, go to the desk and ask to set up a call and collect. You have to show photo ID (apparently) and sign a slip. Then, you can go in to the sorting centre, so long as it's at least once a week and pick up the mail...it does not get delivered.

With me, someone managed to get this done using stolen documents with no photo ID (same to open bank accounts) and would filter my mail.

I never knew there was a problem until I moved. I used to get all my regular mail as the fraudster was collecting it every morning, taking the incriminating letters/application forms/credit cards/pins etc and posting the rest while I was at work.

I would say, if you're worried.....go down to your local sorting office and have a chat, they will let you know if anything has been done and also, check your credit file just to be sure!

Good luck x

Interesting. Right - I'm sending 3 letters to myself today:

1) A postcard
2) A dvd via amazon (Transformers - complete load of rubbish)
3) A letter on company paper regarding a "bonus"

If there's a redirect none of the above will get thru. If there's a nasty man filtering my post then 1) may get thru and mebbe 2) if he hasn't seen it.

Of course, it could just be that I'm Billy No Mates....but I'm erring on the side of caution...
