What a suprise a idiot of a police officer.

Personally i'd have his badge for this **** up. As far as i'm aware ANY accident must be reported to your insurance to not do so is illegal (i may be wrong!).

Might be a common theme though, the officer attending my accident advised me to settle privately as it was cleary no ones fault (yet i won the claim 100%). Maybe it saves on paperwork for him.

Good luck to him though i know his pain all to well!!

You are I'm afraid. However personally (and I have done) if a crash involves another motorist I notify them anyway but tell them I'm going to first try and settle it outside of insurance.

(Not read the op for a couple of days) but you can't really slate the copper from this guy's side of the story. Maybe the copper spotted something that could be doing them a favour out of not notifying insurance or is possibly just plain sick of people making fraudulent claims.

I'd have thought the attending officer would pretty much just be saying what he thought each party wanted to hear. Essentially he's done the victim a favour as he now has contact with the car driver.

I'm not a fan of our local ones either - they refused to turn up for me!
(although this probably had more to do with the monkeys on the switchboard)
