I don't like "private" auctions where the identities are kept hidden, just seems weird why someone would set it like that.

Would I have paid £600 for it though? Yup!

Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole myself. 70k miles is a hell of a lot, surely? Svs aren't expensive bikes, and for not much more you have yourself a nice curvy , with much lower mileage. Sure the engine may last another 20k, but it may not, then you've got the hassle of getting rid of it or stripping it.

For same price as a curvy you have that bike and a spare engine.

Why do you have to get rid of or strip a bike just because the engine goes pop?

Curvy for £600??? Yes please!

Just my opinion, I don't know what the word for it is, but I'm the opposite of a hoarder (sp). If I'm not gonna use something it may as well be in the bin. So a spare engine is useless to me, I don't have the room to keep it, no inclination to learn how to fix it and can't be arsed to wait/get someone else to fix it if it went wrong.

I'm not saying you're wrong but I wouldn't want a useless (to me) bike sitting about. I'd rather spend more and get a well looked after, lower mileage bike, that IMO has a higher probability of working for longer . Plus curvies look better so it's a no brainer really .

Might not be needing a car soon and that's exactly what I would have been looking for.

eBay has changed. Every single auction is private now

I don't think you've understood YC. You can't buy a decent Curvy for £600. Also you don't have to have a spare engine sitting around in your way, just that if anything happened to this 70K miler you could afford a replacement engine and it would still be cheaper than a Curvy

It is only worth what somebody is prepared to pay. so in this case its true value at that moment in time was £600.

As I have argued with others many times. If it is worth that much, find a buyer.

I can't believe the 80% of you saying it would be worth a look that's not how ebay works IMO. You put a bid in based on the description/photos & if you win it, you go and make sure the description is accurate otherwise you walk away. But what's the point of going to view something before the auction ends when you have no idea of the final price

I don't think so... there is private like this SV was when bidders' identities are fully protected, and there is a standard auction whereby user accounts are starred out so you can't see the exact user, but still get feedback numbers etc. On a private it's all to easy for a "friend" with 0 feedback to bump up the bids because no-one can check the other bidders' feedback to make sure they're (sort of) genuine buyers.
