Yeah younger brother went into a local furniture shop (Doorway to value) to look for a new dining suite in one of his firms vans, wearing company sweatshirt etc. met at door by a saleman.
"We don't do finance", Err so? "We don't take credit cards", Err so? "We only do quality furniture" He pulled 3 grand out of his wallet shoved it in the face of the saleman and said, "So my money is not good enough for you" got in his van a drove away. Only way to treat some pretentious gits

Ed, Did Anne say anything to the shop assistant. I sure as hell would have. Maybe not so Sophie could have heard it, but whatever job you are in, whatever you get paid and whoever you are serving, it costs nothing to be polite. I would stand behind anyone in a customer facing role that was dealing with rude/offensive customers. When it was me I would refuse t even acknowledge some of the hotel guests until they could speak to me in a civil manner. They hated it, but I stuck to my guns as I was raised not to let anyone speak to me like I was beneath them and I won't.
You'll only ever be treated the way you allow yourself to be treated, so rather than be the victim of someones rudeness.....let them know how rude they have been, don't swear or raise your voice and if you need to, report them. I gt refused alcohol in Morissons last week. I got asked for ID, didn't have any and the lady took the beer away. I said I still wanted the beer, she said I couldn't have it as I didn't have ID. I asked her if she really thought I looked 25 or under and she responded by saying the following things... "It's down to perception and you should take it as a compliment" I'll decide what I take as a compliment "I didn't mean to make you all flustered" I wasn't at all flustered, I said I'd see if I had anything in my handbag "You young people are so impatient and impetulant nowadays, you want everything immediately" I went to the custmer service desk, asked for the duty manager and said, "I haven't said anything to the lady as to be perfectly honest, I have been nothing but polite and she has been nothing but rude and in making generalisations about the youth of today, she herself has been the rude person. It was agreed that there was no way she should have asked me for ID let alone refuse me alcohol and she had a bit of a talking to. She deserved it as not only did she insult me, she also patronised me and if you don't highlight this, it'll carry on for other people. Last edited by gruntygiggles; 24-03-10 at 03:05 PM. |

Well I'm glad it ain't just me...
OK so Avril Lavigne ain't Chanel but it was an 11 year old girl asking for it, she's seen it on the kids' channels and of course all the girls at school have it. Anne didn't say anything and doesn't want me to go and make a scene cos she likes going in there to look at the clothes so I guess it'll ride... but I won't go in there again unless I have to. Grrrrrr. Manners cost nothing. |

Sometimes, when you speak up about bad service, you guarantee good service in the future and if you are always then perfectly polite all the time, you really get to bring that lesson home to some people as they realise you are not an awkward customer and have to look in the mirror a little bit.
I just think to be rude to a child shows that you are no more than a child yourself. |

I dont understand the problem here, the customer advisor pointed out they dont sell mass produced (if we are honest slightly chavy, I know she's 11 but come on) brands, explained the reason why they dont sell them, then advised where you could go to get it?
Surely thats good customer service, no? She could have just said, 'nope we dont do it, sorry' then left you to go find it yourself elsewhere. What kind of attitude did she say it with? I guess its hard to tell without being there. I have to agree with this too, you've got a shop where extremely rich people go to spend £30k on a Louis Vuitton suitcase without blinking an eye. Why would they want a group of screaming kids with a couple of carers walking around the shop like it's a museum when they clearly arnt going to buy anything? It may not be the demands of the shop... but those of the customer. The one thats spending the £30k keeping the shop in business. Last edited by G; 24-03-10 at 03:34 PM. |

G, I doubt Ed would have posted this if the lady behind the counter hadn't been rude in the way she said. Like my post about alcohol above. Doesn't sound too bad when you read it, but the way she said it was beyond disrespectful and she knew it....in fact, she was enjoying being patronising and rude like it was a power trip for her. Anyway, I got my beer in the end and she found out she wasn't actually allowed to refuse alcohol....she should have called for a secnd opinion when I questioned her.

I (unfortunately) know people that would get seriously offended for suggesting they had or wanted something that is mass produced/cheap. They would think you were rude for suggesting it, not that I am saying that is the case here. Slightly off topic i know but on one occasion even the suggestion that they tried asda's own chicken curry in a tin on a jacket potatoe offended them. |

Haha. With oversensitive people like that (which Ed isn't so don't think Anne or Sophie would be) it is usually their own insecurity that makes them oversensitive.

Had this yesterday, went into a specialist watch shop in full bike gear and spent about 20minutes looking around the various cabinets...
Everyone in the shop was assisted / offered help while I was there except me... So rather than buying the quite expensive watch I wanted, I went and got it from H Samuels instead (who were very helpful after browsing for 5mins) |

Ed -sorry to hear about your daughter's misfortune - I've been in House of Fraser and wasn't exactly bowled over by how up-market it was so not sure where that employee thinks they're working?
I am however happy that there are a few pence (pounds?) less in Avril Lavigne's pocket. She's not exactly the best example of what Canada has to offer, so the sooner she drops off the radar the happier I'll be. With luck she'll take Celine Dion and Bryan Adams with her. That said Bryan has been living in the UK now for years, so maybe he's more of a British concern ![]()
