sometimes they do yeah.

Often its not just the raw technology but the timing of its release, the quality of the package and the supporting ecosystem of applications, suppliers and carriers. That's what Apple seem to get right more often than not.

They have their fair share of failures too though.

The iPhone is a superb device, much much more than just a phone. The gap between it and its competition has reduced recently though. There are some good alternatives in the wings that didn't exist a year ago.

it really pi$ses me off I buy a device becuase it works for me and i like the look of it if i didn't i wouldn't buy it ffs. its not because i want to be cool or because my mates have them go read what i said in my previous message on this thread.
I think because in general thats the sort of person that sings Apples praises all over the show. You are being tarred with the stereotypical brush that's brought about by many Apple fanbois out there. Unjustified but true I'm afraid.

Calm down. I am only teasing mate, I couldn't give a toss who spend their money on what. In fact if I thought I'd regularly use half of its technology I'd buy one.

The only thing I find funny us people getting excited about features this new Iphone has which have been on other phones for years (eg video calling). They are getting excited like it's a new invention when it's just re-branding old technology.

Although you are buying it based on it's merits you can't deny there are a some people who will buy a dog turd with an apple logo on it.

Spend a say in a mobile phone shop.

"Everyone at work has an Iphone so I need one. Where do I sign?"

Followed by endless middle aged Iphone owners coming in needing help.

"No madam it isn't broken. I just has the screenlock on."

The screen resolution, 'n' wifi, scratch resistant front and back are great.

Buuuut;
'facetime'- are you kidding me? And;
No flash support, huge lack of OS features compared to Android 2.2, massive price tag & dismal battery life put me off.

you can get Flash working fine once jailbroken.

on jail broken devices the drm is open and you can do what the hell you like via ssh if you know how that why I find it more interesting as I have to go research and learn how to do stuff.

with droid most of it is already open what's the fun in that !

battery isnt too bad new one has 40% extra talk time apparently.

price yeah a tad high but if the demand is there and people are going to buy it good on them i say thats what business is about making money and that's what they are doing.

i will get the contract and trade in or sell my old phone so i will be on the same-ish tariff and pay what 80 quid towards the new device ... not to bad imo.

Video calling is probably really great for people who spend alot of time on the road or away from home in general but I find skype/videocalling in general a very weird experience - like a conversation with a deaf person whilst holding a mirror in your peripheral vision - you often have to repeat yourself and you're constantly noticing strange faces which you didn't realise you made in everyday conversation..

It's more the filming in HD and being able to publish to the web which excites me - the speed at which information travels is constantly getting faster. Like with the london 2005 bombings - at first it was power surges and trains breaking down for no apparent reason, then over 5 or 6 hours is transpired that it was actualy a terrorist attack. London was 'on lock down' which made it difficult for people to get around and find out what was going on - so what would happen when people caught inside the event can report events themselves?

Random members of the public capturing events as they happen and then uploading them to youtube before news crews can arrive on the scene is going to change things quite a bit I reckon. No producers or news editors to put spin or their own news values on unfolding events will lead to a bit more democratic media...

Being able to autofocus quickly/easily will make for really quite well produced videos as well

Or I could just record my mate lighting his farts and then post it to YouTube in glorious gassy high definition... Prolly what most 4g owners will do

sounds awsome, but scary as **** too. In that instance can you imagine what reports we're likely to see fooding the web. Using the london bus bombings as teh example we'd be hearing of Alien attacks, Gas main explosions, terrorist attacks, martial law taking over etc it'd cause national confusion... finally everyone as baffled as me, brilliant.

Pretty much any phone does that, ok the quality of the video differs from phone to phone but like I said before, it's old technology.
