But if all the complications are left to one side and we go to basics. Am I really going to notice the difference between a £400 Nitron/Maxton/Whoever built for me to a £660 Penske built for me for the road?

*I could have gotten away even longer without servicing it. Even after 20K miles it was still waaaay better than a brand new stock shock (I rode it back to back with my brother's then brand new bike). It was the low cost and vague feeling of "it can't stay this good forever" that made me service it. |

i'm not trying to plug Nitron over Penske but what got my vote was. the parts are made in Japan the shocks are built in the UK the servicing costs are reasonable the quality of Finnish is superb and they get good reviews. one only drawback is that there is about a 3 week waiting list, which tells you something. if something is not quite right its only a cppl days and its back in your hands. buuuuut if i wanted a full on racing shock and cost was no option then yes i would plug for a Penske.
i wanted a good quality road going shock at a reasonable price with a good servicing backup. call me old fashioned but i would rather support the british economy than someone else's god knows we need it right now. |

Those nitron track/race ones, piggyback res? That seems daft to me, if you are making custom shock put it on a hose so owner doesn't have to chop bits up.

As to how it rides, probably not, if you could it would come down to how well set up they are rather than brand x > y.

I have the Nitron and It is awesome. Transformed the bike for me. Once I did the front end with emulators, the bike was perfect.
I wish I'd have know they did black springs when I ordered mine though. I have a nice aqua coloured one lol. |

I went for a WP race shock on the SV and it transformed the bike, it was fully adjustable (including 20mm length)
I was lucky though I got mine 2nd hand of someone on the forum and luckily they had it built for them and they weighed the same as me...

I think I'm pretty much sold on the Nitron shock. I sent them a email late last night regarding the spring colour and got a reply first thing this morning.
"Our shocks come as standard with our signature turquoise springs. Many years ago we did offer the spring in black as an option, however we are now being specifically asked to supply our signature colour. In fact, due to the racing popularity, there are now several shock copies using our colour scheme. If, however you would like you own colour, we may be able to accommodate your request." But after staring at the picture the turquoise colour is actually beginning to grow on me so I might keep it as it is. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. ![]() |
