Strange question to ask, but the reason I ask is that I need to decide if I should get tpft or fully comp.
Tpft is 148 pounds with a 300 excess, fully comp is 1100 pounds with a 600 compulsory excess and 200 voluntary excess. Bike is a 2009 SV650S worth around 2.5k Should I get tpft or fully comp? Roughly how much does it cost to repair a badly damaged SV ? |

Its cheaper not to crash
![]() Sorry not helping I know but in the example you've listed the cost of excess alone (£800) is around what I'd expect to be able to fix almost anything on an SV for. Based on those figures I'd get the tpft even though it goes against what I'd normally advise. |

I went TPFT this year.
Did a grand total of £18 worth of damage to my bike in an off last year, but I was lucky. You'd need to do more than £800 worth of damage to claim and then take the hit the following year in the form of an increased premium. How can one do £800 worth of damage? Fairly easily I should imagine in a big crash. So, in other words, up to you ![]() |

Cheers for the replies, I'm not intending to crash
![]() The premium and excess alone when claiming on fully comp would be 1900. The premium for tpft with legal and accident insurance would be 190.83 meaning that the claim would have to be over 1700 to even make sense having comp insurance. Add on the fact I'm young and with a claim insurers will ![]() Are my calculations right? |

Yes, a big crash on an sv till set you back about £600 and its a case of if you crash.

The answer is to buy a cheaper bike.An old curvy bought for about £700 and insured TTFT will be just as good to ride but wont give you all the what if worries you are having now. Then spend the money you save on suspension mods and petrol.

Yes. Buy R&G or Motosliders, both proven to work by many on here. Cheapies probably won't stand up to a crash to well, but that is not the way to find out.
