Why the "need" just out of interest? Surely better to say "might be an idea to think about advanced training"? Last thing you want to do when you've just been through the pains of your test is to be stuck under someone else's watchful eye with more pressure. Better to adjust to life on a bike and get comfortable in your own time, I would have thought anyway.

True, but your training is to just get you through the test, the advanced is to show you how to ride properly making it more enjoyable and safer, just trying to make him less of a danger.

Assuming he's a danger straight away isn't very nice lol.
I've never had advanced training, I don't consider myself a danger and I'd like to think others don't either... but maybe that's because I had 5 years road knowledge previous to my bike test.

Just take it easy and enjoy yourself. Go slowly and only do what you feel comfortable doing and realistically know you can do safely. Don't take chances

I was lucky in that I had a year's experience on my 125 before taking my test but I know if I'd gone straight into DAS with CBT too then I sure as hell wouldn't have wanted to then have someone else breathing down my neck and watching my every move, not when you got the strains of doing the test fresh in your mind anyway. I do see what you 're getting at though SSDJ!

IMO, when you first pass you learn your mistakes (hopefully carefully and without pain) on the road, you get to grips with your bike on your own and just enjoy that freedom. Obviously the longer you leave it, the longer the bad habits you pick up along the way are drilled into your brain but those creases can be ironed out later on. I intend on doing a Bikesafe type course at some point but I'm not rushing it. I don't consider myself a danger to anyone else (if I did I'd be doing one sooner), you'll know when it's time to get some proper training from an advanced point of view.

Enjoy having passed your test Jonny, great time to have done so, don't go mad now the sun's out and think about an advanced course when you're ready would be my advice.

Thanks for all your comments, i am sticking with been safe and only doing what i fell comfortable doing for now. I think i can learn plenty by just getting out on the bike and getting the experience under my belt.
Plus it also helps that both my instructors are friends which i will be riding with. Been out today with them both for hours, learnt loads of little bits which helped me fell more confident on the bike. Back out sunday!

Precisely. When I was first going out with people on the bikes I made a point of asking what they thought of my riding, I'd like to know if I was doing anything dangerous and more experienced riders (with andvanced training or not ) are usually very helpful and happy to keep an eye on you.

If you're willing to learn from your mistakes and can take criticism, you'll go a long way and improve those skills much quicker. Happy riding and stay safe
