Default Battery or charging fault? Curvy.

So went to leave work and bike turned over a couple of times then slowly died. I am confidently assuming it is the battery. I had a new reg/rec about 18 months ago but the symptoms when it broke down were completly different, on that occasion it died completely this time all the lights work and will attempt to turn when left for a few minutes.

Lucky one of my colleagues rides a Triumph Daytona so I rode pillion home.

Whats everyone else think?

Ignition off battery 12.7

Idle lights on +14v

Rev 5k lights on 13.8 to 14v

This was achieved by running a wire from the black wire on reg/rec to the -ve on the battery so it looks like it was a bad earth or wire somewhere Is it safe to keep this wire permanently attached now as it seems to work?

I did that it was 12.9v which according to that guide is fine.

Just checked the old battery I took off that is putting out 12.1v, does this mean faulty?
