you pay your money and make your choice I guess. Storing music locally on NAS servers is probably not mainstream either these days, cloud storage and streaming is where its at. Most of the smartphone OSs now support this, including Apple.

I wasn't going to come back into this, but re cloud. OK when you have available 3G but slow, Holidays have proven impossible to even get wifi in places so need to download everything before you go. but go on I have a number of "cloud storage" sites. How the feck do I get my music from them to her apple. They are only visible from a browser.

Or is that a way for her to get them at home, she sees my nas as a browser index, picks the directories she wants and is somehow able to download them to play later?

There are simple ways around having whatever songs/film you want in iTunes and not pay for it. And you then can sync it with you iPhone

your not getting it, I don't want itunes, she has already got in excess of 100 albums in mp3, I simply want to install them on the phone. Not install any apple software on any of my systems.

She currently uses the TV android dongle to select her albums on the home nas and play them through a bluetooth connection from the dongle to the bluetooth speakers in the lounge. I need that level of simplicity for her iphone. look at a list of hosted albums from her phone, and decide which wants she wants to copy onto the phone. No intermediate devices.

Is it that difficult?

I get it. You want your mp3s on iPhone. You need to install (unfortunately) on the PC that the mp3 are and then drag them into the iTunes. Once that is done connect iPone and sync

Then Apple is not for you I'm afraid. Get rid and pick up an Android.

He's said too many times that iTunes isn't an option for him.

In answer to your question Tim, get rid of the iPhone

You want to click and drag mp3's to your iphone, fair enough. Trouble is you can't do this, but the alternative is almost as simple.

The way to get your albums on the iphone isn't much more complicated than the above once iTunes is installed. It basically only adds one extra step- Syncing the handset.

You drag your albums into iTunes, once you've done that you connect your iphone to your pc via usb and simply click "Sync iphone". It's that easy. The albums will now be on your iphone.

Of course as others have said, if you can't/won't install itunes on your PC then ditch the iphone.

He isn't running windows or mac, thus making installing iTunes impossible.

Fair enough. Need to get onto the network who sold the iphone to his Mrs then and try to get a swap? Isn't there a cooling off period during which the phone can be returned no questions if you are not satisfied ?
