when ya get your new battery try the 'direct wiring' technique the others have mentioned with the newer reg/rec

ive had charging woes the past 3months. did all the tests/bought new reg/rec. nothing worked untill i did the new wiring, but problem was i did it to the old reg/rec. was then gettin what i thought were okayish figures eg. 14 at idle with no lights and 12.8 to battery with headlights at 5,000rpm. barely enough to maintain the battery and eventually after a few weeks the battery would need a good charging.
got ****ed off as the bike wouldnt start the other day and after revisiting my old threads/figures decided to do the wiring to the newer reg/rec. stuck it in and now im getting a healthy 14.2 with headlights at 5,000rpm
it appears now i had two problems going on at once...faulty wiring AND a reg/rec which was failing under load..

Cheers noob, the shop wouldn't sell me a battery because he didn't think it was the issue. If I can get off work earl enough on monday I'm going to ride it round and he said he'd try it with one of his reg/recs on.

I've tried wiring it directly to the battery but it made no difference

Right well I rode all the way to the shop today (no rear plastics, numberplate/indicators/undertray bungee'd in place) without a headlight indicators or front brake but when I got there I was welcomed by someone with a working multimeter and a fair idea of the difference between an árse and an elbow. Basically he's not a clue what my bike was doing but it seems to be chargin according to his multimeter.
engine off 12.9v I think, engine reving 13.2-13.5v. Thing he did note though was that my battery was a bit higher voltage when off (but I had charged it) and that the yellow wires to the regrec were hitting between 75v-85v ac around 5krpm but at about 8krpm it was hitting 160v - said he'd never seen one so high but as it was ac shouldn't do any harm.

Rode round after for about an hour and a half with lights on and using all my electrics to their fullest and it was ok.

Appears to be charging but not much, so something is either draining it, or preventing it from charging fully.
Weak reg rec maybe. Or the battery.

Hard to troubleshoot electrics from tother end of county! It's hard enough in person lol.

lol yeah, probably weak reg/rec. That's with a brand new tormax aftermarket one. I said that to him but he said they were decent aftermarket (I didn't buy it from him). May aswell just use it til it goes bang then use a cbr one. I'll see how it goes and think about a battery upgrade too.
Annoying how it looks like my multimeter must be ****ed though! it was showing 11/12v 11/12v whatever I did. Could have been riding it

Going to give it a proper run tonight see what it thinks.

Cheers, hoping it isn't something draining it as I wouldn't know where to start looking....

Better keep it in the upper rev range just to be safe, eh.
