G2D what manner of christianity are you on about? If you blindly believe stories then you're a fanatic. When I was at school and going to church in early life I was taught about the good samaritan etc. ... like I say, stories to teach morals.

But I will be the first to acknowledge that this is taught behaviour.

What sort of level are we talking about here? Right from wrong when it comes to killing or a sense of boundary and possession?

I think it's safe to say very few Christians have actually read the bible. Check out the First Testament. Perhaps the most disgusting piece of fiction ever created. This vengeful, hate-filled bully of a god would stop at nothing to prove he was not to be messed with. Whether this involved genocide, or asking someone to kill their children; it's all in there.

This is true. Not nice. Got to say the true "Christians" Ive met (a lot I went to a CofE school) weren't imo nice people. They were opinionated elitist and small minded. Maybe that's what being a true Christian who believed the (good?) book exactly?

(please note im not saying all are like that... but the vast majority I have met are.)

New testament overrides old, and we're on about christians not jews.

They are not christians they just think they are. I have met good and bad from people who label themselves as that, and those that do not.

Matthew 5:17: Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets [of the old testament]: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

- Jesus

But then he was Jewish, does that mean he's not christian but just thinks he is?

Either way he's kind of an authority on the subject isn't he?

Well you obviously know more about it than me, but Jesus is portrayed as being merciful, compared to the brutality shown in parts of the old testament (that's what I mean by overriding it). And I believe that good people who call themselves Christian should follow that example. Belief in God or not, that to me is what religion gives to society.

Jesus was actually a pretty funky, nice guy. I wish the pope would his autobiography and quit assisting Africa turn in to a hospital ward. He'll be having a go at gays next ...
