I don't know for certain but presumably there was similar sentiment during the last crash? The thing that pushed it all over was the inability to just 'sit' - because interest rates shot up. Granted, that was much, much higher, but there is an element of the 'inability to sit' problem with people who are unable to renew their mortgage deal on a rate they can afford - so they have to sell. And that'll be at the market price.

What remains to be seen is if that will get bad enough to cause a serious crash...?
