An A road in the Lakes is not the same as an A road in the more urbanised parts of Britain. Having lived in Ambleside for a few years, and biked around there loads its a really decent route Richie has put together. What the map doesn't show is the elevation changes, and if you Google Earth it and zoom in just how twistie it is.

Some of the 'quieter' roads, if you zoom in, have more turns than an MP's expense claim.

Oh I'm aware of most of those roads and indeed used them last summer around the area, just was looking forward to it being a bit more taxing, given what is available was all.

Still it's only 130 miles the route, so I'm guessing it's not going to be a late finish, so I could possibly do a bit more in the evening.

Cheers Mark.

Hi Mark, I think its a balanced route bearing mind some of the comments earlier in the thread. I know I couldn't do some of the tracks you'd probably prefer. In fact I'd be reluctant to try Hardknot and Wrynose at present.

But don't worry, if you do go out a bit of longer run I'll look after your beer(s).

well perhaps having been spoilt before in doing just what I wanted, is an unfair comparison, and the balance between a taxing ride and the socializing is more in keeping with those going, not that it'll put me off, as I'm arranging a number of things in conjunction, I'll have hopefully done just over 400 mile the previous day taking in the North dales, so I could well be fairly tired myself, can't really do to much beer as I may need painkillers at some point, and that'd knackered me for the following days ride.

Not a complain as such, just an observation, I don't get up there as much as I'd like, so if the evening isn't possible perhaps I'll use half the sunday for the passes, would like to do a run up to wast water as well.

Feel free to look after any beer(s) although I'm of an age where a cup of tea is normally a better idea.......

Cheers Mark.

Thank fu.. goodness for that...
The local pub might have some beer left at the end of the night then.

Two more from my works want to join us too.
One is an oldie from this webside too as I found out this morning, but it's been a long time since he last loged on, As he remembers me being Richie1743 and my old Avatar of the Tank from the wackyraces...

Right Volenteers needed... Tail End Charlie, and a Group Leader.
get your own copy of the route so you know where you are and you know where your headed... Just in case of a brake down / Pee stop / fag break... ETC...
I don't mind doing either or non... If some one wants to take part then your more than welcome.
The route is simples... It's not a race but it's also not a plod / bimble either...

We're going to be using the drop off system on the route, if your not o'fay then the rule is simple...
If Your the Lead Bike you must always have at least one bike behind you.....!!! This is A MUST.
If your the bike following the Lead bike, and you come to a junction where you Either turn Left Or Right.., then YOU stop at the junction ( At a safe place so other bikes can SEE YOU...) and direct the rest of the following bikes in the direction of the Lead bike, then rejoin the pack when the Tail end Charley get to you.
Tail End Charley... picks up the lost bikes and makes them head off in front of him/her/ who ever....

You catch the drift.
