Bullsh*t rules like that are what make this country so darn annoying.
I got something similar last weekend taking a load of rubbish to my local dump. In amongst the garden rubbish I had on my trailer a couple of fence panels and an old garden shed. According to local council rules I was allowed to dump everything apart from these items which were going to cost me ?37! Whilst unloading the other bits a car pulls up with fence panels on his roof racks and starts unloading. I queried it with the dump guys and they say he was ok as he brought it on his car (no trailer). My solution - drive out of the dump. Tie it onto the roof. drive back in and dump it... saved ?37! A couple of plumbers had the same problem - they just parked outside and walked it in... nothing the dumpguys could do... no rules about carrying rubbish to the dump by hand! |

To be fair I have hit the same problem once before .. at sainsburys that time funnily enough (you gotta love supermarket fuel!!)
![]() ![]() Again, to be fair to him, if the law is 10L, he was only doing his job ![]() ![]() It also p1sses me off as I have to spend more money getting to and filling at other stations!! ![]() Last edited by Blue_SV650S; 28-03-08 at 11:39 PM. |

It always makes me laugh that you can't use a phone in a petrol station (like that will cause a spark) but every time you buy a lighter they test it in the shop!

Have a browse through this:
http://www.hse.gov.uk/lau/lacs/65-9.htm If you want to argue with the attendant, show him para 20, the summary. |

Had similar problem with trying to take **** down the dump in my van (its my private van, not used commercially at all) ... on stating it was just a personal use van he said 'sorry its commercial waste, if you brought it in a car you would be ok' ... I said, I have a 2 seater sports car .. I can barely fit a sandwich box in the boot, let alone all this stuff, besides as I have the van, I don't really want to ruin my car with all this rubble and my conifer cut-offs etc either ...
Met with a blank look ... so indeed I parked the van outside and hauled it in bit-by-bit by hand!! ![]() |

Shifter, it is the vapour that is dangerous. Phones etc could ignite the vapour in the vacinity of the pump. The chance of there being fuel vapour in the "shop" area is pretty slim at best. For the vapour to ignite it has to be within a certain fuel/air mixture so to be honest it is very unlikely at the pump but, believe me, not impossible.
I have worked with fuels etc in the past and I do get frustrated at the "blaze" attitude of people at the pumps. Sorry to rant but people should be more aware of the hazards of fuel. |
