Thanks Pete, it seems he`s just doing his job then! I do think that it`s a dangerous place for a school patrol crossing but I assume the council have done some sort of a risk assessment ![]() |

I don't want to appear to be argumentative but I would sooner people have safe options for crossing the road and for road users to aknowledge their right to cross safely.
My commute to work takes in a number of roundabouts with lights and I can guarantee that I will see at least five people jump the lights in a 9 mile journey. There are also a number of light conrolled crossings and similarly they are ignored on a regular basis. I would be interested in knowing what the speed limit is on the road in question. If it is a 30 then there is pretty much no excuse for not being able to stop safely. |

I agree with you and I too would sooner people have safe options, this road is regularly used by a huge volume of traffic plus HGV`s. I`ve seen a few near misses when he steps out. I do feel that some sort of pelican crossing should be put there that could be used and warning signs on the approach to the crossing would warn people to be aware and slow down.

In Cardiff there's a lollypop operative at a pelican crossing and when the green man is on he comes out, like school time means everyone forgets what the freakin lights are for??

He probably does a good job of ensuring the kids only cross on the green man. That's worthwhile to me.

I totally agree...... kids will run out to cross roads and more so when they`re late for school. I`m not saying he shouldn`t be there, i`m glad he`s there but just cos its a school crossing doesn`t mean it can`t be made that bit safer and less risky. But my original gripe was with regards to whether or not his duty is to assist adults over the road. |

im a stand in part time lollypop lady (using term lady very loosely) and I cross kids only. But im right outside the school. There are only about 10 cars go along the road at busy times. I let the adults cross the road themselves but I was told I could stop cars to let them cross. Usually no need. Its a very boring job and it probably livens up his day helping these people cross the road - think its quite a nice thing he is doing
