Dealt with a similar incident at work where a young girl put £20 worth of fuel in her car, paid, started it up and the warning light came on. No fuel. Think it was a faulty pump in the end.

Needless to say she was not met by particularly helpful staff when she complained. It was a BP station in London.

How did you finally get home?

I would have thought, the pump is not delivering(or even as normal) any petrol would have been quite obvious.

Obviously, I'm not saying you are not stating is not correct but as others have said, something just doesn't add up and it may not necessarily be anything to do with the petrol station.

I was about to say, "in that case, it might be a possibility" until I saw the word 'think'

That the warning light came on doesn't necessarily mean no petrol ws delivered. It could be a faulty warning light

You sure no thieving muppet has drilled a hole in your tank to steal your petrol??
Been happening a lot lately because of the fuel prices...usually they just siphon it out but with the fuel caps that lock they just drill into the tank...
Might be worth a check.

I dont believe the delivery pump is at fault, if fuel is not delivered the volume display will show that, even if the storage tank is empty, the display will normally be accurate.

More likely the car fuel tank is leaking or you have been a victim of this.

Happened to my sister in law. Turned out the wasteland she had reversed on, had a few lengths of rebar sticking out. Cost her a full tank of fuel, a new tank and fitting costs.

This thread is the most annoying thread on the forum that I have ever seen!

THere are so many questions that are just not being answered.

I wish people would not waste the org's time asking a question if they are not prepared to check back and answer questions to hopefully come to a resolution.

Issues as I see them
1) what did the fuel guage say before you entered the petrol station?
2) what did the fuel guage say when you left the petrol station?
3) when the nozzle was squeezed was there any evidence of fuel being pumped?
4) to run out of fuel within 5 miles in a car is very strange, that means you would have had to run the tank down to 0.5 litres before entering the petrol station, I can't believe anyone does that
