Default Re: New house help will bills

Verna had this in thier house.

Make sure everything is on Direct Debit. Its cheaper and easier than waiting for a quarterly bill.

Designate 2 sensible pople to hold a bank account
Get all 5 members to pay a set ammount into this account and the bills come from there.
Most bills will only allow 3 people on each bill.
To be honest, all the companies are so close in costs, its really not worth the hassle of finding out whos who etc but get both the Electric and gas from the same supplier.
Agreed, that there will always be someone that uses more of something than the other, but that is one of the joys of a shared house. If someone is home one day a week, then get them to pay slightly more than the others.

One of the things that Verna done, was to get a member each to be responsible for a bill, that way you dont have one person dealing with all the bills.

Get a signed/witnessed agreement between all of you stating, whos responsible for what, who looks after the bank account, how much each person is to pay, what to do if there is a shortfall, or excess funds etc.

It worked fairly well at vernas shared house. There were 5 of them. Just dont get Sky, its a pain in the ass to deal with in a shared house. Not everyone will want it, you will all want to watch something they are not etc and can be an added and unneeded expense.

So you will need
Gas
Electric
TV licence
Water
Council tax
Oh, and the big one, general house stuff (Washing up liquid, bog roll, cleaning stuff etc)

thanks viney, all good points.

we dont have to pay council tax as we are all students, but that is also why people might be slack with paying as they are incabale of basic life skills. lol
