My mate works at the garage (yamaha dealer) so he should see me right

Ive known em all 11 years and they are good lads. Just hope they forget to add a couple of 0's to the end price.

That is very bad luck, my engine is on 30K without a hitch and many other curveys have done many times what yours had done . I guess it must have been abused prior to you getting it? But thems the breaks. You could break the rest of the bike maybe and spend the money on a Falco, or get a new engine, they are around, due to people pranging their curvey and it being a write-off despite the engine being untouched. Good luck.

Ahhh glad it wasnt anything terminal

I thought we were talking banging from inside the engine... not towards the top.

Yup I had the wrong impression too. It does show though not to take everyones word for gospel. Especially if the symptoms are misunderstood.

well I do all my own servicing but haven't gotten around to that yet. I think it was last done at 19K. Engine sounds fine though!

Just as a matter of interest, did you not notice any cam chain noise at all ? whilst it's possible for them to "just bust" it's very rare they don't sound like a bag of bolts beforehand ?

As they are a known issue on the SV are they not something that you re-set at service time anyway ?

Oh and what exactly is "bust" ? did it jump a tooth or two on the timing and have they checked for other damage ( ref your comment "sounds like piston hitting valves" ).

Cheers Mark.

I first noticed a very slight cam chain rattle after a very "spirited" ride with my mate a couple of months ago.

The noise didnt get any worse and i just thought i would keep an eye on it. The day my bike bost it sounded absoulutely fine (when i left home) and the cam chain failed whilst on the move around 30mph!!!! I hadnt been above 50mph at all that day No signs, no rattle nothing.

Its the front cam chain tensioner that has failed, the shop will be replacing both front and rear and checking to make sure the chain hasn't jumped a tooth. As soon as i heard the noise i hit the kill switch so hopefully the timing should still be ok.

Just to clarify, the cam chain noise heard beforehand was very very quiet, if i knew it would fail without any notice i would of had it fixed.

I must admit this has put me off the sv a little

Had a look at a kwak z750 the other day, 04 plate, fell in love
