Check out your local vw dealer for tyres you might be surprised to find they are cheaper than kwick fit etc. for tyres. should be able to get shocks springs discs etc relatively cheaply from euro car parts but for some reason with vw's things like nearside wheelarch trims are more expensive than offside ones (more likely to get scrapped by hedges etc. I presume) cambelt change will cost about 350 (don't go to vw dealer they charge upwards of 100 pound per hour) Like fizzwheel says it all just sounds like wear and tear so I'd be inclined to stick with what you know.

Oh and if it makes you feel better my mate has a mk2 gti 16v that he's spent the best part of 6 grand on in the last year! (but that is his own fault)
