I have built (and rebuilt) a few minitwins bikes in my time and not one has had this modification, the addition of preload adjusters yes but not compression and rebound.

Have you got any pictures of these external adjusters?

Nice bike by the way.
The way i read it is the caps are standard. The rebound and compression adjustment is done from under the bottom of the fork - not on the cap - so this would make it ok.

If it is an added external adjuster it is not allowed, other then Preload adjusters, doesn't matter where it is position it is not allowed.

Internal adjustment yes, external no!

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your comment, she is indeed a very nice bike.

I have raced these forks (along with a different bike) at MRO, they passed pre-race scruitneering, won races and gained podium finishes and then passed post race scrutiny.

Please see below the excact rules regarding suspension pulled directly from the official minitwins website:

Suspension

Forks must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer for the homologated machine with the exception of the following:

- Original internal parts of the fork may be modified or replaced. After market damper kits or valves may by installed. Fork springs may be replaced.

- Fork caps may not be modified or replaced beyond the homologated standard to allow external adjustments.

- Fork stanchions must retain the original finish. No additional surface treatments are allowed.

- Refinishing of the outer fork tubes to a suitable standard is acceptable.
Steering damper may be added although it cannot act as a steering lock device.

Rear suspension unit can be changed or modified. The original attachment to the frame and swing arm must be as homologated.

As you can see it states:

"- Fork caps may not be modified or replaced beyond the homologated standard to allow external adjustments." they are not, as you can see from the images on the previous page

"Forks must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer for the homologated machine with the exception of the following:" they are, again as you can see from the images above.

It does not state you cannot add adjustment, only you cannot modify or replace the fork caps to add adjustment, which we haven't done!

If you can show me some rules, that state differently then please do so, but in the mean time thanks for the interest as it's keeping her near the top

Point it out at the next scruitineering and see what happens, I know at least two bikes that did not pass because of the added external adjusters.

Have you any pictures of them?

They still look like preload adjusters

They look like preload adjusters, but I'd say they've been modified to be the rebound adjusters, which is keeping within the rules, but maybe not within the spirit of the rules. You can adjust rebound via what was the preload adjuster, and preload is now adjusted by removing the cap and installing different length spacers on top of the springs.

As for adding compression adjusters at the bottom of the forks, that's technically illegal under the rules as it adds an external adjuster.

EDIT - actually, reading the rules to the letter, only the caps cannot be modified. If someone wants to add compression adjusters to where the damper rod bolts go, then there's nothing in the rules to stop them. It'd be an ar5e to adjust because the wheel has to come out every time, but I suppose once to know your settings for each track in wet and dry conditions, it's a simple matter of clicking up or down when you swop from dry tyres to wets.
