one thing that did occur to me was that it does have a Datatool Evo alarm/immobilser - could it possibly be that kicking in if the battery has been disconnected?

AHAAAAAAAA . You may have to do some sort of reset thingy with keyfobs etc , the immobiliser will have kicked in and stopped , what it considers , a theft of the bike .

Unlikely, they tend to cut out the main ignition live from the kill switch which stops it from turning over too.

Or it could be cutting power to coils/ICU, so does it have a spark?

I did have a look at manuel online (no orginal copy), however it was only nine pages and didn't mention anything about that - so if anyone does have any ideas how to reset it......?!

Check for any spark as mentioned above , this could point in the direction of some sort of immobilisation . My mate has a link to a website with directions on factory re-sets for alarms and related issues , you pay a fiver via paypal to get the info and it helped my mate with an immobiliser issue on his GSX1400 . I`ll find the link tomorrow .

Couldn't try - loosing light and gotta take the front fairing off to do that. Will do it tomorrow. It's weird though because it did start a few days ago.

Just looked out the window , it`s getting dark so understandable LOL , try it when the light is better , talking of lights , are they working on the bike when you turn the ignition on ?

Yeah lights/indicators/horn are fine. Might try bunging in a new set of plugs tomorrow if the front one does not work and hope that does something. Do not understand how it would start fine one day then not a few days later when it has not even been ridden! Have just text the previous owner and she said she did nothing special to start it when I went round to look at the bike... but then again, I suppose she would!! Only passed my test a few days ago so itching to get out on it!!
