Ask for the picture, bear in mind that if it changed to red as your front wheel hit the line it is the same as disregarding the signal.

Think I'd have to agree with Al here. What Soulkiss suggest is a perfectly sensible defence that noone with half a brain would just discard. However, the chances of anyone dealing with this case even having two braincells to rub together is remote.

Either that or get down there with a video camera and film the cyclist running it, then ask why are you being singled out, is it discrimination because you are a motorcyclist?
In fact, I just found this - written by a cyclist in Bristol http://onthelevelblog.wordpress.com/...light-running/ State that perhaps you were late, but were not blatantly ignoring the signal - unlike the author of the linked piece.

just spoke to camera processing unit who are sending me the picture!
at least from this i will be able to see my exact position etc and may have (all be it small) an angle to work on......dont get me wrong if i have blatently disregarded a red light (im sure i didnt) ill hold my hands up... i rode through swindon a few weeks ago....senn lots of cameras with red covers over guess this is whats being refered too....was good...long stretches of open road, was safe and noone got hurt and i made good progress...safely...would have been hindered if the cameras where still in use!! |

Well, um, yes. That's exactly how it works, and that's why we have the yellow light. If you go through late enough that it's red when you cross, then you're too late. Not going to get preachy because I've done it myself, and I know how it happens, but it's not the camera's fault if you run a red. You can run this argument with speed cameras but you'll not get far with red lights.

All the more reason to leave the policing to the police and not to idiots in processing centres. |

Therefore... If the amber was on long enough for the lights to change to red as you crossed the line, then you were given ample warning and had plenty of time to stop. Unless you were 'making progress', but I wouldn't use that as an excuse to the rozzers. |
