Why not keep the Bland-it and buy a Duke? Not as expensive as you think. 996's on ebay for around 3k. Don't bother with a 916 unless you want to rewire it.

Proven parts availiblility with loads of bits on ebay. Give your Dad something different to tinker with.

I think we're very much alike AS you say, i'd get 2nd best, and always be thinking "I wish I had....."

Oi, Petey, leave the Bandito alone, shes not bland, many a time i've had it exciting (or scaring) the hell outta me. Shes a good bike for what she is.

I never realised 996's were so cheap? £3k, surley thats a dog though. I don't want a nice sports bike for it never to work.

Tuono FTW - I have a funny feeling that an 07-on shape one* will be gracing my garage next summer...

*purely based on the fact the dash is so much nicer lol

Of course they are cheap. How do you think we can afford one?

Ok more than 3k but from a main Ducati dealer. Scroll down to the bottom of the S/H Dukes. 996 in yellow. Does that look like a dog to you?

2nd hand priced dropped alot after the 1098 was released.

Personally ( and please dont take offence Pete & Lissa ) I think a used 999 makes a better buy, but its down to whether you can live with the looks or not.

I don't actually mind the 999 looks. Think its the ugly ducking out the lot, but becuase of that you don't see that many on the road.

Still a great bike though. I think if i went for a 996 i'd try to be Foggy.

Not so bothered about Hodgeson

Why haven't you bought a Bennelli already*

3 on ebay from 3K to 4.5K or less by offer - '03 & '04s

And keep your Bandit - you don't want to be suffering every day with a good bike in the garage you can't use because the road's wet & you're stuck on a scooter that you don't want to be on.

*Or has it got to be a new one

I'd have to sell the Bandit to have those kinda funds available.

I know you can get a good one for £4k (much less and expect a sh1tter), and no problems getting any engine mappings sorted (most have a different map, only a few work, and with a rear can you need the exact right map or it will run like a dog).

But im getting snobby as I get older (someone gimmine a 700 mile one with the first service done ). I like new stuff.

Consider a 748 if you are tempted by a 916/998.Same bike but slightly less powerful.Sweeter engine though, and cheaper to buy and insure.
BB junior bought a 748S and I was pleasantly surprised when I rode it.Definitely a class act chassis wise, and still the best looking bike ever made.
