if money is a bit tight, rather than fancy alarms and all that, a mate of mine has one of those remote doorbells, his bike is parked frontwheel against a wall and if you move it, it pushes the bell button, you'd never know it was there as the front wheel is on a bit of wood and the button under the other end, and obviously the other bit you can put by your bed or anywhere really, seems to work fine, although it's never been tried in anger so to speak.

think it cost him £5.99

Thats a really clever idea, I might give that ago combined with a ground anchor so that I dont have to leave it on a pavement next to a lampost.

Do you have any other vehicles you can chain them to such as cars?

The one thing that I did when leaving my bike in my girlfriends back garden was to chain it to a massive pair of metal ladders (makes it too long to fit in the back of a van), also a barbeque and a set of wooden chairs!!

Could have just been kids betting on which bike was under there....

Keep an eye out though for a bit, just in case.

A light with a sensor pointed at the bikes helps a lot more than you would think. Theives tend to work in the dark. Works best in the city though.
