My point is, it still needs to be spun on a balancing machine to show it is balanced.

Nah not really you can do static balance with axle stands.

Still needs testing though, and this was my original point.

moot point anyway, tyre/wheel combo is still not holding air after the repair... Anyone got a giant wheel shaped bucket of water I can borrow?

Bath is big enough, you don't need to do the whole wheel at once. Or a big cardboard box with a really big binbag in it

Cheers for the watery suggestions lads! My favourite so far is flinging it in the forth and clyde canal with a rope attached for easy retrieval

WOOHOO! I've never been so glad to find a panel pin in my tyre! Means the wheel repair is probably OK...

This may be a silly question, but can bike tyres be repaired/patched/inner tube fitted? If so would you recommend it? (The tyre only has 800 miles or so it).

You can have them plugged from inside or you can use an external one.

Cheers Chris. Is it something you would recommend/do with your own tyre? Or is it a better idea to bite the bullet and buy a new tyre?

I've done both, internal repair is safer. It's a judgement call but how much is left on the tyre?
