There was a recent thread about teaching someone to drive, where I advised don't.
firstly, most learners don't have their own car. You end up teaching them in yours. or in the case of wife/GF etc. Ours. the first issue here is it has not got dual control. when it goes tits up, your only course of action is to try and knock it out of gear, whilst grabbing at handbrake, forcing your feet through the passenger foot well and trying to grab steering wheel at same time. not easy. In my case I gave up and turned to religion whilst my eyes were tight shut, braced for wipe out. I stupidly said to my sister, "Go straight through at the lights". and she did. despite them being on red. When I shouted at her. She started crying and that she had only done what I told her. thank god there was nothing coming and it pre dated cameras on lights.

It can be so many things...
Fun Difficult Frustrating Uplifting Satisfying Saddening Deflating Inspiring Rewarding Scary And at times, I would rather stick pins in my eyes. Yep, I do it for a living. Seriously though, it all depends on the student. Some are so easy to teach, some will just never get it. Also, it's essential that you know what it takes to pass a driving test (that sounds obvious but you would be surprised). |

I've taught two ex-girlfriends, my ex-wife and two of my sisters to drive and al passed first time with a handful of proper lessons at the end. I stopped short of teaching my daughters because I love all of them far too much to let a silly thing like this spoil our relationship. I can always get a new girlfriend, but replacing kids who won't talk to you is difficult. They all got (get, cos one hasn't passed yet) lessons from professionals.

I wouldn't want to teach me to drive. I'd want to be driven round country lanes at speed so I could see what the instructor was capable of before taking lessons from them.
Dad was going to teach me to drive, he's a good driver, but I'm not interested enough in driving cars to fork out 700 quid to go on his insurance. I can drive big dumpers, teleporters and diggers so I don't think I'd need many lessons. I still don't think I'd be nice to teach though ![]() |

The easiest way to teach someone you know to drive is to let someone else teach em!
