Man- I'd love to go and see the Northern Lights.

I was going to suggest Norway. But as said above- lots of money for hoping on the weather. Apparently, Norway is quite a pricey place to be in too.

Aberdeenshire then?

Did you see the programme about Joanna Lumley's trip to see the Aurora? It was great and quite moving to see her so....moved by it. I guess I must just be soppy!

Yup thats what inspired me..! Ive never done anything for my birthday before (apart from a big party when I was 21) but thought it would be nice to go abroad and do something different

Apparently January and February are the best times to go. It is pricey but it must be worth it?

Thanks for the links guys, I'll check them out I found a 3 day tour trip to finland which was about £550 which included staying in a different hotel for 3 nights full board, seeing the lights, sledghing with the dogs, snowmobiles and equipment. Not sure if that was good or a rip-off as I dont have anything to really compare to

EDIT: Oh and the 550 doesnt include flights

That Joanna Lumley programme was brilliant - we've still got it saved on the V+ box.

We were lucky (very lucky I think) to see the Northern Lights in Iceland in early May this year. That's quite late in the year to see them but it was fricken cold!

I would recommend Iceland for the trip, it's a great place, lots of other things to do there too (such as Blue Lagoon, Geyser) and apparently it's a lot cheaper to go there now the economy's crashed! They do dedicated Northern Lights trips from Reykjavik but we just saw them from outside our hotel!

PM if you want more info and photos!

Cheers

Is the "Gag 'n' Puke" still there? Their pancakes and maple syrup were amazing. I spent most of Med Man 6, '93 broken down and parked up. Then some bright spark from REME decided to drag us, and our frog, (Combat Engineer Tractor) behind the ARRV. Thanks a lot. Nobber!!!

Oh yeah. Northern Lights. Brilliant. If you can get to see them. I'd go to Trondheim in Norway if I were you. I was there, on exercise again, in '92 and they were really bright and vivid.
