The reason they are called 'energy efficient' is they use less energy. Energy is measured in Watts (brightness is measured in Lumens) so you won't find 100W energy efficient bulbs, you will find 100W equivalents! The equivalent CFL energy efficient bulb to a 100W incandescent bulb is 23 Watts (approx).

yes i figured that out when I read the labels, it basically says on the box equivalent to whatever wattage but there were none that were equivalent to 100W

They are banned from sale after Sep 2009 (revised from Jan 2009). 150W already banned. Doubt retailers even know or will abide until their stocks delpleted.

Ah I wonder if thats what the problem is then.... the supermarkets aren`t bothering to buy anymore in incase they end up with a shelf load of 100W bulbs

Osram 20watt CLF... well bright enough ... i use the. tried most of the others osram are best.. do not buy philips CLF, they are crap...

clf's do go dim after about 1.5 years so dont wait till they pop..

we burn 6 bulbs in my house coz the kids dont know how to turn lights off after changing over to clf's about 5 years ago i have saved quite a bit on my leccy bill..

put it this way 1 clf v's incandesent = £23 a year... based on 8 hours a day at 15p a unit of leccy.

I've found like most things that modern ones are a lot better than the offerings of a few years ago, both in start-up and in brightness. The best ones I've had so far were freebies from Grittish Bass, first rate. Don't put up with the old heaters, get some modern efficient ones.

Just think, if it was the other way round would you willingly opt for some "new" lamps which used five times the energy of your "traditional" energy efficient lamp?

If in doubt move up a rating, and as Bibio says, Osram are hard to beat.

get some philips power xtreme blue vision HID bulbs... they use tonnes of electricity but you'll never squint while reading another book again
