Thanks for your responses guys!

I'll check out the linkys and amaretto.

Tottenham Court Road would be a good halfway meeting point after work between me & matt I think.

Grinch: Thanks but I don't like sushi!

Please don't kill me if you find that Amaretto is not good enough
for you. I have a friend who keeps telling me that it is a disgrace
that I keep going to Amaretto. Other people find Amaretto
acceptable. I myself am not a great fan of Italian food (I prefer
Indian or Spanish) so can't really judge. Portions at Amaretto are
reasonable and prices, as far as I recall, are reasonable as well.

I also have nostalgic reasons for visiting Amaretto from time to
time. When I was interviewed for my job at UCL my future employees
took me there for dinner. Poor buggers didn't think it was worth
their while taking their potential boss to a really fancy place.

for a chain, Carluccio's are actually quite good but might be a little busy for a special occasion.

if you fancy somewhere fancy, try Via Condotti on Conduit St (Mayfair), or Pescatori on Charlotte Street - plenty of other choice there too.

Or have a browse around on toptable for ideas and some good special offers esp if dining midweek.

I know Pescatori well but it is more expensive than Amaretto. I am
the guy who signs off claim forms so I don't authorise trips to
Pescatori unless a special case is presented to me.

I don't venture into central london much and thought I would do something different by going somewhere for my birthday this week. It would be an added bonus if BigApe would join me.

Thanks

Maria
