I'm guess ing it would just be a case of loosening all the upper bolts and removing the stering stem nut and washer. It should just come off then might need a knock with a rubber mallet though?

Don't take my word for this as I have not tried it.

My yolk suffers from this, but it's worth it for the convenience of always having my lock key and immobiliser fob with the bike. As to making sure it doesn't happen again, has anyone removed all the paint and just polished it? I take it that it's aluminium and hence won't rust?

I'm currently working on this now. I've resprayed mine twice. The paint flaks off again quite quickly I find. I've used hammerite and normal car spray. This time I'm going to use some etching primer to see it the paint will stick a little better.

I usually use Halfords Satin black aerosol paint for touching up the satin black bits on Suzukis, its a perfect match for what Suzuki use. On silver Pointy subframes Smoothrite silver aerosols is also a perfect match, it's a good match on CBR600 FW frames as well.

You need to remove the ignition barrel too.

Using security torx bits size 40 IIRC & they are threadlocked - or smash out the security bit & use normal torx bit

Once you've got it painted, to stop it happening again, stick a blob of Bluetack on the yolk and stick your loose keys in it once the bike is running.

You can also stick coins in it if you happen to be going via a toll road/bridge too.
