I've heard I can take my front wheel off by putting a big weight over the back like a few kilos in my top box, is that true or will I need front stand.

Correction on this, the odometer is not working as an odometer, but it's working as in displaying figures, just not ticking up the miles as I ride.

get a stand or rig up some ropes to rafters to take the weight-its not worth risking damaging your bike mate

2 people - Axle Stands under the pegs, then weigh her down at the back is what I do, or if got nothing, hydraulic car jack under the front, but have to be careful or she topples over. So whatever you choose to do, be careful!

I can't work in these un-informative conditions It's not my fault sir honest! He said it was working, didn't say that the odometer wasn't ticking over miles

A front stand is by far the best way to do this but make sure obviously that its one that holds the bike from under the headstock, not the bottom of the forks which would be pointless

If you dont have a front stand, you can use a trolley jack and a peice of wood to jack the bike up from under the front of the engine, but you'll need to make sure you use a rear paddock stand in addition. An additional weight such as a bag of sand (laying on a towel) at the rear of the seat will ensure that your bike doesnt tip forward.
