So, if you've altered the clutch cable over a million times, and it keeps changing itself on its own, and when in first gear it creeps, and then once warm its fine.....what would be the best thing to do, swap the cable first or have a peep at the worm?

Just wondering if its worth getting a new clutch cable before Tues when YC has a poke about. . . I'm feeling stingy and could rather do without

I'd leave it, if it ain't a biggy. Spray grease or old engine oil down it and work the cable for a bit if you can be arsed.

Assuming the adjustment is correct, persistent clutch drag can be caused by a notched clutch basket, (or less commonly the same wear to the clutch hub), this causes the plates to 'hang' and not separate cleanly. If the damage is only slight, then it can be dressed out with a file, but only if it's really light.

I will remember to check for notching of the clutch basket when I check the plates. I have a file lying around somewhere at home so will use that if there is only slight damage.
Is it a big job if the whole basket needs replacing? bikes only done 19000miles. ![]() |
