oddly enough I rarely do this, I feel less guilty if I tuck in behind the lead car. If Im in a silly rush I usually slip by a car as they drop it into 2nd gear anyway but again that rare too as I use it to commute and Im never in much of a rush to get to work.

Really? Didn't think there was anything wrong with that, providing the line isn't zig-zag'd and you don't cross the stop line...

No its a CITY of London thing. It's always been their bug bear but I've never seen the Met enforce it.

Correct
But unless they stop stupidly far from the stop line which does sometimes happen, It's a courtesy thing not to pull in front. It also allows them to pull away on the red & amber, but you can pull away legally on the green[/iam]

But on the other side of the lead car thing it's nice to get into a position where you can more clearly be seen rather than hanging about in between lanes. It looks a bit aggressive but it's something I do so I don't get squashed.

Sorry to derail Jambo and thanks for the heads up.

the whole use of cycle boxes was covered when i took my test about a year ago - the word was "Noooooooooooo" - i still do it though much for the reasons TM gives above - had no idea it was technically running a red-light though - cheers Jambo

Yeah I understand IAM don't like you doing it. Rosario also picked me up on filtering to the front of a queue of a mini roundabout where I wanted to go left. She said it was the couteous to stop a few cars back and it removes the risk of cutting them up when you turn left. I really do need to get out of some of the bad habits I have for IAM .
I do always try to say thanks to people who make filtering easier for me though.. really pushes by buttons when I'm in the car and people don't say thanks for letting them out of a junction etc.

Still though, I only tend to go into cycle boxes when I'm riding in London. Just so I don't get squashed lol. Also makes it easier for other bikes to get to the front IMO.
Riding in London requires a completely different skillset to any other place I've been

Take it easy,

Jambo
I know, one of them came to have a chat with me this morning, just as the lights changed and i zoomed off down london wall. They have also been knicking cyclists for jumping lights, and turning right off london wall down moorgate.

At last!

I see cyclists jumping reds on Finchley Road all the time. With no police
around the only thing I can do is pray that one day a huge truck comes
speeding across.
