On occasion when giving it full throttle at high revs, the engine 'dies' as if the kill switch has been hit or it has ran out of fuel (neither of those things have actually happened).

It dies for probably no more than a second, but it is long enough for me to bob my pants when overtaking.

The problem does not present itself at any other time, only high revs full throttle, and even then it only does it now any again.

I will try and have a look at it this weekend, where should i start?

Fuel lines, carbs. or electrics?

Cheers
exactly what revs does this happen at?
sounds very much like your hitting the rev limiter (if curvys have such a thing)

The power doesnt really die when the limiter kicks in , it just stops increasing. This combined with an unmistakable de,de,de,de,de type noise, not a definate pause.

There are other things it could be, electrical, heat related, faulty coils etc etc but most obvious one to check is fuel and air delivery. Check the airbox and filter for obstructions also.

As others have said, check the fueling. Are the pipes kinked at all? Whats the condition of the air-filter?

Could it be a choke-related problem anyone?

RE: valve clearences - at 17,000 miles, you should have had them checked once by now (every 16,000 miles is the valv clearance check). Shouldnt interfere with fueling though.

What about spark-plugs? what condition are they in?

Check service history to see if its time for new sparkplugs anyway.

I have exactly the same problem with my XT600 and I've narrowed it down so far to fuel/carb problems, I'll post up when I fix it with what it was.

Hmm I do get something similar... when I've cracked the throttle fully open in 6th sort of hit 90 ish then roll off the throttle there feels like there's a temporary miss in the engine somewhere, it's only very brief but its enough to unnerve me a bit. Not unduly concerned but would be nice to have some idea what it is. So far I've just put it down to having restrictor washers in but I dunno really. Doesn't happen every time either.
