Ah, the good 'ol SV trick of making people think the cam chain tensioners are shot

Nope, dont worry - the ticking between 4000 and 5000 rpm is pretty normal for the SV engine - mine does it, ive heard other bikes doing it, several people have told me their does it.

Check a few things:

is the oil level towards the upper limit? My engine gets noiser if the oil level drops below the top third of the sight glass.

Is the chain cleaned, lubricated and well adjusted? Again, I notice my bike gets a bit noisier if the chain is drity and dry.

Its just a resonance effect; something harmonises with the engine at 4000 - 5000 rpm on SV's. If it was the cam chain tensioners, you would hear the rattle at tick-over, and right through the rev range.

I'm good on 1 and 2.
3 is interesting.
