I've got a schuberth lid, yeah it's very quiet and a really good lid. But you'd still require the hamster buttplugs

If you've got odd shaped ears then customs are the way to go, I have one very small ear canal, and getting a foam plug in was always a PITA - customs fit perfectly and cut out more bad noise whilst leaving the important frequencies, exhaust and traffic noise, intact

Mine cost me £65, from the guy who turns up at Rainbow every now and again. They should last for ever, given that they're washable.

www.ultimateear.com - I got the UEP87s, cost ~£75 once the cost of having casts made at the local audiologist's is added, should last pretty much forever, i expect you'll lose one before they degrade as they're made of squidgy silicon...

Jesus! I was expecting like £10.
Cheers for the advice guys I'm going off to experiment with 4 earplugs and some tape. I'll either be at A & E or buying some customs if you need me.

Have you tried marshmellows?

I bought my self-mould ones for £15 or so! I don't know how they compare to 'pro' mould ones as I've never had them, but they are better than foam ones for me. They initially sounded louder than foam but I think it's cos it lets through certain sounds as TLW says. I'm happy now that it's quieter than foam at high speed though, but not by much - I think foam ones fitted me fairly well.

However - they are much more comfortable!

The ultimate ear ones are noticeably quieter than the foam one's I've tried, I meant the exhaust and traffic sound louder because they cut out so much of the high pitched whistling from the wind noise

Yeah that's the same thing I meant with mine, cos when I am at low (town) speed, I can hear so much of the traffic/exhaust/etc it was almost like I didn't have them in. But then when you get up to motorway speeds you realise there is nowhere near the same amount of the wind noise - the noise that really gives your ear drums a whack as it comes through the helmet (hard to describe but that's the best way I can think of lol).

Anyway, for £15 I thought it worthwhile to try the self-mould ones, and it's worked for me at least
