Age limits make more sense when looking at accident statistics. Why are insurance premiums so high for 17-21 year olds? They have more accidents.

Going from a 11bhp 125 to a 150bhp sportsbike is likely to kill someone when they open the throttle a touch too much by accident, so a restricted period does make sense. 4 years seems way too much though.

I never did understand why L plate motorcyclists could ride solo, when you can't in a car, yet the motorcycle is more dangerous. Day of passing my motorcycle test, nearly hit 2 L plate <16 years old (looked like) scooterists weaving through traffic and cutting me up. 1/4 mile down the road, heavy traffic no room to get past and they u-turned in front of oncoming cars causing heavy braking. Not to mention they stopped at traffic lights having a chat and didn;t notice them changing...

Spot on. I agree that L-plate riders are (generally) suicidal... I speak from experience, in fact I wonder how I survived because after having gone through the full DAS training I realise now how little I knew about how to ride on the public highway and how much of a risk I was.

Plus, it would get rid of all those annoying ****s in suits, no gloves and Momo helmets cutting everyone up whilst commuting in Central London.

Don't really have an opinion on the extended restriction as it doesn't apply to me...

You cannot do this under current rules.

I'm in two minds about this, kitkats daughter did her CBT in May and tbh she is nowhere near good enough to go on the road by herself yet. But we will be addressing that as soon as I get her bike finished and on the road. But without doing her CBT we would be running her around for the next year or so until she passes her car test.

As for the L plate idiots they're not just restricted to L plates are they. Ther are idiots in all walks of life be it on L plates, GSXR750, harley-d, car lorry etc etc.
It's wrong to tar them all with the same brush

Anybody thinking they like the sound of these rules should cast their mind back to when they were learning and how much this would have cost them!

The rules would make it illegal to ride a derestricted 125! Which lets be honest aren't the biggest threats to the nations rice puddings are they.

AND this would make you so much more of a target on the motorway than 33bhp. Even 33bhp is pretty scary on the Mway because you don't have enough poke, but at least then you've got a little presence on a big bike.

And 47bhp, 2 YEARS on some heap of sh** like a GS500? Can you imagine the frustration? I'd rather buy a GSXR1000 and register it to someone else.

However, doesn't all this rubbish (33bhp, new test etc.) come from the EU anyway?

Amen to that brother

Thing is if you look at what they are wearing, the suit alone (in some cases the shoes) cost more than a decent set of kit.

And Momo is Italian for "Chin Reconstruction Surgery" - right.

Mind you its the girls in knee-length skirts, suit-type jacket and heels that make me cringe.

I keep meaning to turn to one I am stopped besides and say "Nice Legs" then point out the mess gravel rash would make of them.

Still everyone has the right to choose what they want to wear on the road.

It is however a good indicator of attitude/ability - their Scooters are just a method for getting from A to B quickly, they dont care about them beyond that.

One thing i dont understand is how the government are ignoring the fact that motorbikes and scooters (as much as we love them) are all answers to the congestion and pollution they are trying to stop so much, so why make it more difficult for us to use them??

Because all the politicians are cyclist, see themselves as superior to us and are frightened of those noisy motorbikes that almost had them off as they ran a red-light/exited a one-way-street going the wrong way.

Dispite evidence that cyclists CAUSE congestion (hogging the center of a bus lane @ 15mph, causing buses to have to use the non-bus lanes, something I see everyday on my commute).

My dad did the same with me once i passed my CBT although i had passed it he went out with me on his bike for a week of two to make sure i was safe (plus its not as scary stalling when you have another biker with you)

On a side note about L plates i saw a army apc on the road today with L plates on so i gave him a nod, he nodded back aswell
