The problem with the SV is that it doesnt rev. If you could do some serious work and got it to rev to 14K rpm+ and still make power up there you would have yourself a SV with SS600 power numbers. Unfotunatly to make an SV run at those speeds youd have to bascally make a new engine

A shame...

Im not looking for an argument, each to their own etc. Buuuuuuut.......

What is it about chnaging the SV so much? Why do people buy one and then change everything but the engine and chassis?

Is it a case of 'Ive bought it so I'll stick with it' or just loving the engine or something? When I got my K6 and said I was fed up of the handling people jumped in recommending fork swaps and damper swaps etc for what was a brand new bike. Im just really curious as to why you would spend extra money to make it act like one of the super 6's when one could be bought for little more (or less) than the SV costs in the first place?

Im not saying it shouldnt be done I just want to know why people do it? I know people bolt all sorts of tat to all sorts of bikes but isnt changing the whole suspension a bit steep? It sounds like Im having a go but I remember being completely confused about this when I had mine, surely someone has an explanation for it!!

Oh and how many bits do you change before you give yourself the title of SV'R' too??

Because you can make a profit out of doing it. Either sell your SV forks for more than the GSXR ones, or buy GSXR forks when you crash your SV because thy are cheaper on ebay than SV ones. So that's one reason

I have a 2004 SVK4 worth about £1800 insurance is £250
a 2004 GSXR would cost circa £3500 with £800 insurance so it would take a hell of a lot of fettling to get the outlay anywhere near that of the gixxer.

Understand your point however costs are very different

So in the event of a crash its cheaper to buy a set of GSXR forks then a set of SV ones? Thats weird considering how much better the GSXR ones must be.

How much to buy and fit both the GSXR forks and the rear shock (does it still require hacking the battery tray?)?

When the bikes brand new though, it does seem weird to be bashing bits onto it. I'm glad you realise Im not taking the **** , I'm genuinely interested as to why.

I upgraded my suspension for a couple of reasons, i like the bike - it has enough power to keep me happy and hopefully keep my licence! I just felt the suspension let it down.

The other reason is i like fettling just as much as i like riding the bike so i enjoyed doing it. Also it didn't cost a penny as i sold the SV stuff and broke even.

what is it with peeps who dont understand why someone modifies their bike to their own tastes?

why do we decorate our homes differently?

all mods are done to make them our own, we are individuals. from summit small to a coupla decals to all out sussie and plastics mods. we do it coz we can, and we will. no explanation necessary. all thats important is that we are happy with our stuff, its called freedom of choice.

as for the SVXR mentioned by etuna, sex on wheels!
