Good afternoon.
Remove the HT caps & snip 1/4 of an inch off the HT lead, this should ensure that the caps screw into clean copper. If you have difficulty screwing them on, screw a tiny self tapper into the lead beforehand, this will provide a sort of thread for the HT caps to screw onto. You can drain the carbs without removing them. Although it's a bit of a pain. You'll need a long 5mm ball ended Allen key & a torch to see the drain screws. You access them from the right hand side of the bike, the front screw is located at behind some bracketry & is rather difficult to see, hence the need for a torch. As your tank pipe was blocked it's highly likely that you have water in there, peep inside the tank, using the aforementioned torch. Water will appear as a 'Jellyfish' lurking at the bottom. Cheers. The main/only reason someone would do this is if the drain tube through the middle of the tank has rotted through. If you fill the tank now it's been unblocked, I reckon fuel will run out.

That would depend where the pipe has rotted through.
Pop the tank off, blow into a pipe on the bottom of the drain (it's hidden underneath, just in front of the hinge). Put your finger on the top of it (next to the filler hole), you should be able to feel pressure. If no pressure, and the air you blow in is going into the tank, you haz this problem. It would explain your running issues.

Just thought i would update on what was causing the running issue,
Well it appears that one of the carbs was over fueling and they both required a good clean. Was taken away this morning and stripped by a mate and then the carbs were balanced and everything now appears to be spot on. His word's " It pulls like a F***ing train" Hehe, just hope all goes well tomorrow and i can take it for a run. Rob. |

So why did they seal the breather/drain? I would certainly check.
